Wrens will hold a special election Tuesday, June 18, to fill the vacancy left by Councilmember Johnny Rabun Jr. who resigned to run for mayor. That position became available when former mayor Lester Hadden resigned.

Qualifying were David A. Hastings, John J. “Johnny” Rabun Jr., and Sharena Louise Johnson-Vaughn. All three listed their occupation as retired on their qualifying forms. According to those forms, Hastings has been a resident of Wrens for 25 years, Rabun a resident for 69 years and Vaughn, a resident for 24 years.

In a hand-written letter dated Dec. 28 addressed to City Administrator Arty Thrift, Hadden cites failing health and other personal projects as being the reasons for his resignation.
