Marietta Councilmember Appointed to FCC Broadband Advisory Committee

March 19, 2024

Joseph GoldsteinOn March 11, 2024, Councilmember Joseph Goldstein of Marietta was appointed to serve a two-year term on the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee of the Federal Communications Commission – bringing a local perspective to issues related to broadband and telecommunications.

The IAC is tasked with providing “guidance, expertise and recommendations to the FCC on telecommunications issues affecting local, county, state and Tribal governments.”

Councilmember Goldstein is one of only eight municipal representatives in the country to serve on the IAC. In this role, he will meet with FCC officials to discuss how to best deploy and adopt broadband services in communities. These exchanges will be critical as Georgia puts to work the millions in federal and state funding it has received since 2021 to close the “digital divide.”

Councilmember Goldstein’s appointment underscores the importance of locally informed decisions at the federal level on telecommunications issues. The IAC will convene for their first meeting on April 18, 2024.
